MOUNTAIN AND MOUNTANEERING THEME MEETING POINTS
There are currently many ongoing events to do with film, expeditions and adventure throughout the world. There has probably never been a moment in history with so many events worldwide to choose from. This success is partly because of thigh activity in mountain film production but also because of a growing and faithful public that attend and follow event activities with interest.

Film events are often cross-disciplinary events that besides film screenings include side activities with a mountains theme. These are meeting points where mountaineering enthusiasts can find new productions, authors and leading roles. Many also hold conferences, expositions, workshops, forums, book presentations, outdoor activities and parties. These events are becoming rather than just film events, big happenings about the mountaineering world.

These events' public are enthusiasts but also professionals that use them as a perfect platform to present and promote their productions. COMPETITIVE EVENTS

E.g. Trento Film Festival
The original mountain film Festival. Since 1952.
Events with a film competition section. Usually with a classic Film festival format. They have a contest call for entry which allows a jury to preselect pieces that will become part of the festival's program. Screenings and award ceremonies are often a meeting point for creators, leading actors and mountaineering celebrities. Besides screenings they often hold side activities.

TOURING EVENTS

E.g. Banff World Tour
Screenings in over 600 cities round the world with a film selection from Banff Festival.
These are screenings with a fix program that tour around different cities. These film tours often are born as an extension of film festivals with a tradition. In this case, with a selection of best films in this year's festival. Usually they are mostly screening events but sometimes can include celebrations or broader events.

EVENTS NO COMPETITIUS

E.g. Rencontres du cinema de montagne de Grenoble
It has been hold for 15 years and has more than 15.000 spectators per year.
It includes all film events without a competitive section or film contest. It is a more open category than the preceding, and often includes very unalike events.
Some hold a long tradition and are of the same or bigger magnitude than a lot of film festivals. However they are different because instead of awarding productions they offer their own selection under their own criteria or from an open call for entry.
